RL proves that dressing like a boy is sexy

LBD's with loads of cleavage...yawn. Anybody can wear that. It takes a woman with real je ne sais quoi (+ confidence), though, to pull off a sexy, boyish look, like those seen on the Ralph Lauren Spring 2010 runway (above). And I happen to love this look year-round!

Gourmet Magazine's Last Days

So, my heart broke a little earlier this year when Gourmet announced the magazine would be no more. And it broke a little more when I stumbled on Last Days of Gourmet, a blog by Gourmet's brilliant associate art director Kevin Demaria. Check out more images here.

Sigh. The silver lining (because there always is 1): finding Demaria's site. Love.

Glittery, affordable(ish) J. Crew gift ideas

These festive "crushed glitter" new arrivals from J. Crew are all well-priced (@ under $30 ea), making them great gifts for the gal that loves glitter on your holiday list. And btw: leave it to J. Crew to make a sparkly magic wallet. Nice.

Yu Hong: my new favorite contemporary artist

Her recent exhibit, "In and Out of Time," at China's Guangdong Museum of Art, sealed the deal. Yu Hong is officially my favorite contemporary artist. Her work, in a variety of mediums, takes my breath away.

What to Wear: 10 Year High School Reunion

My style suggestions (click images to enlarge)...

1) Fun, flirty frocks: cheerful, free-spirited, print dresses transcend dress codes when belted & paired with black tights + heels. Wear this look if you want to project happiness & more importantly, if you want to be comfortable.

2) Blazer-topped print dresses: like No. 1, these dresses are fun, but the addition of blazers add sophistication. Wear this look if you want to project confidence & if you're looking for a great excuse to invest in that new blazer you've been eyeing.

3) LBD, sexy-fied: layer on your favorite accessories to make these basic dresses appear anything but. Wear this look if you want to look chic, or if you want to show off some of your favorite accessories (think vintage jewelry, statement heels, etc).

4) Ladylike & glam: combining bold/feminine accessories with timeless silhouettes creates a look that's part old Hollywood, part fashion maven. Wear this look if you want all eyes on you.

5) What I would wear: when push comes to shove, I gravitate to tailored basics in neutral colors. Also, I would sparkle, since I'm not sure how long this sequins for morning, noon & night trend will last.

Runway Inspiration: Gold belts add drama

Make a statement this fall with 1 simple wardrobe addition: the gold belt. Get inspired by Oscar de la Renta's Fall 2009 RTW runway. He belted everything from separates to draped dresses, sheaths & gowns in gold. The effect was always the same, dramatic & sophisticated.

Versailles + purple = dreamy, non?

One of my faves, The Selby, recently featured artist Xavier Veilhan's exhibit at Versailles. The combo of sleek, geometric objects against the ornate architecture makes it hard to take my eyes off these images. And the photography? Stunning. View more images here.

Haute papier-mâché : who knew?

I officially heart Up in the Air Somewhere because of these papier-mâché bowls (above). These creations are just a few of the magical works by Chicago-based artist Susan Dwyer. You must check out her site for more amazing goodies.

Warhol Polaroids @ Nasher

Speaking of Warhol, the "Big Shots: Andy Warhol Polaroids" exhibit opened recently at The Nasher Museum of Art (Duke University). The show runs through Feb 12, 2010. My faves: Jean-Michel, 1982 (top) & Bianca Jagger, 1979 (bottom). View more info on the show here.

Horizontal stripes (cause I'm an addict)

If you were to see me daily, you'd see I sport a horizontal stripe top at least twice a week. Which is why I was super excited to see these T by Alexander Wang (new arrival) versions at N-A-P. Love.

Oh & I'm also feeling the rolled khaki, mainly because I'm wearing a rolled pair right now. Sure, my look stemmed from it being laundry day, as opposed to me being fashion forward. Whatevs. Still love.

Warhol for your walls...this is brilliant!

Shout out to my mother for sending me this link. What's better than a room stenciled in Warhol's Marilyn? A blog with step-by-step instructions on how to do it yourself. Sweet!
