Sunday Read: "Heroes of the Environment 2008" by Peter Gumbel

This TIME story is about how 2 businessmen popularized biking as public transportation in Paris recently. Their model is interesting because the program is not funded by taxpayers.

Style Inspiration: The Stylish Tourist!

Relaxed but not sloppy. And I love the subtle nautical reference. Plus I love a dress for travel because 1) it's easy to pack, 2) 1 garment replaces several, 3) it can be dressed up depending on shoes, 4) it dries easily, ETC, ETC...

Temperley for the bride

Welcome back to another Weekends are for Weddings!

My jaw dropped recently when I saw these gorgeous Temperley London gowns:
Not sure why, though, considering the beautiful dresses on Temperley's spring 09 ready-to-wear runway:

Oh, & Temperley London's new Web site will launch soon (June 09). Awesome!

Emerging table trend I love...

Loving tiny fabric/ribbon flowers as linen accents. So sweet & thoughtful. Hope to see more of this!

Laid-Back & Lovely [Brunch]

A casual wedding incorporating white, berry shades & greens. Would work perfectly for a Sunday church wedding followed by a brunch reception (a crepe cake like this 1 & lots of beautiful pastries would be nice). This is also a great way to stretch your budget. Bridesmaids could wear lovely dresses (like this 1) from Victoria's Secret.

Desert Luxe

Lush & unexpected. Don't be narrow-minded when considering your venue/location/region/ & don't let it dictate your style. Instead of desert colors & rustic details, I decided to take this board in the direction of luxe. I can't think of anything more bewitching than erecting a romantic tent in the middle of the desert for a formal dinner with your closest friends. Why not?

Hope your Friday shapes up to be as beautiful as these amazing photographs by Au fil de...this photographer's work is stunning & features lots of simple subjects but the details captured are always breathtaking. Check out more photographs by this artist at Au fil de...'s Etsy shop.

Don't forget to check back in this weekend for another Sunday Read & Weekends for Weddings Posts (featuring Temperley, a table trend I'm in love with + 2 new inspiration boards). Happy Friday! xoxo

Spring/Summer Classic: The White Suit

Put together some of my favorite interpretations from the spring 09 ready-to-wear collections:
So many options. This look is just eternally chic. Prefer a colorful suit for spring/summer? Flashback to this post.

Chairs & sofas on your chairs & sofas

As a design lover there are 2 things I can't get enough of: fabric & furniture. How perfect, then, are these original Scarlet Fig fabrics? I love the idea of upholstering a fabulous sofa or chair in a print like this...too witty. Buy these fabrics & other goodies from Scarlet Fig's Etsy shop.

Love chairs? You might also want to check these out.

Mary Ann Wakeley

My latest Etsy obsession is artwork by Mary Ann Wakeley. I am totally in love with her paintings! These 2 works, in particular, manage to be both bold & serene, which I love. Check out the Etsy shop for more of this incredible artist's work.

Eyelet by Isaac

If you follow this blog you already know I'm an Isaac Mizrahi fan (hello!). His passion for style is just so infectious! So, when I saw these lovely eyelet pieces from his Liz Claiborne line I had to share! Love eyelet for this time of year & although I usually prefer it in black or white, how cheerful is it in pink? Love.

Check out Isaac's beautiful site here.

The Selby features Sally

Sally Singer (as in VOGUE's Sally Singer) & her NYC home are featured on The Selby this month.

Justify FullLove Sally's work & love (love, LOVE) The Selby so I'm pretty excited about this! Highlights include cool books, photography, & a pretty mean shoe collection (natch)! Pay close attention to the lighting (lamps, fixtures, etc) - my favorite part of her home. Check out Sally's home here.

W Features Fall

W magazine unpacks fall fashion in its latest feature, "100% Fashion." My favorite looks from the feature? This monochromatic Ralph Lauren look (top image) & short structured dresses by Erdem & Oscar de la Renta (bottom image).

Arrangement matters

This image has been on my desktop for weeks & I can't stop looking at it! While there are so many obvious things to love about this room (the lighting, the chairs, the art, the colors) I think I appreciate the furniture arrangement the most. It's unexpected. Plus, several months ago I moved my own bed from the center of the room close to a wall, which has made the room feel completely different, more cozy & open.

Attention Kmart shoppers!

Style snobs, stop reading now. This post might pain you. :)

Kmart's clothing line, Attention (yeah, funny, no?), is surprisingly right on trend: berry, brights & basics for spring. My mom & I have visited the Kmart near her new house about a million times getting things like hardware, etc & looks like these pull us in, like a magnet, each time. In person, the colors are so awesome. Who knew? Had to share.

New in Tabletop

A couple of new tabletop items from Neiman Marcus:
I love these for a summer party! The fabulous part...if you are on a budget you could make napkins like these & scour thrift stores/flea markets for a set of colorful glasses. Would make for such a cheery summer table (inside or out).

Style Inspiration: Worship Time!

Remember long ago when people actually dressed to go to their place of worship? Yeah, I miss that. I love a deeper gray with a deeper pink. Plus gold. Unexpected & fun.

New Derek Lam Store

Was excited to see a slideshow by The New York Times on the new NYC Derek Lam store. Is the dressing room (bottom photo) amazing or what?

Pottery Barn Lighting Sale

Haven't been to the Pottery Barn site in ages. Found cool lighting on sale there yesterday. Am impressed by the design AND the price of the Calvin Pendant ($69.99):

Am in love with the glass base of the Canton Floor Lamp (less in love, though, with its sale price - $499.99):

Swimwear classic: black & retro

Speaking of the one-piece, the retro look never gets old to me. I think it works best in its simplest form: black & a vintage cut. Amp up the look with big accessories (think Jackie sunglasses & straw hats).

Don't forget to remember...

While relaxing, etc today, don't forget to remember the amazing men & women who sacrificed their lives so that we might be free. To the servicemen & servicewomen stationed around the world today, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all that you do. Happy Memorial Day everyone!

One-Piece Wonders

Sometimes, no matter how flat my tummy or how [faux] tanned my skin, I want a one-piece. These gorgeous Ashely Paige runway looks make me never want to slip into another bikini again!

Prettiest Engagement Photos Ever!

When I stumbled on these photographs by Steep Street Photography via The Bride's Cafe, I knew instantly that I had to share them (especially since I took the weekend off & there were no Weekends are for Weddings posts). How refreshingly beautiful are these images? Love.
