NYC is about to get even sweeter!

A new restaurant, Sweetiepie, will soon open in the West Village. According to the Norwich Notes article in the September VOGUE: “With a capacity of 74 in two rooms, the décor is intended as some kind of embracing, mirrored Joseph Cornell box, with a pink marble floor, banquettes, and ice-cream parlor-type chairs.” Yummy.

Check out the restaurant’s site for more info here.

Less is more...

Honestly, studio living kind of scares me. I mean with no doors, where do I hide all my shit when company drops in? Well, I found this image from dominomag.com & it makes me WANT to live in a studio. It’s simple but striking. Fun but sophisticated. I think it’s so breezy and effortlessly chic. I love it!

Billy is Broadway Bound!!!

I was delighted to hear that Billy Elliot the Musical is opening on Broadway on October 1, 2008. For those of you who never saw it, Billy Elliot is a beautiful movie (2000) about a boy who escapes his oppressive surroundings through dance. His father thinks he’s attending boxing class, natch. I absolutely love this film & hope I get to see the show. At the very least, if you haven’t seen the film, see it. Now.

Ok, people, I’ve stumbled on a gold mine!

So, I was thinking ahead to October & possible Halloween costumes. No, it’s definitely not too early to be thinking about this. If my mother taught me anything, she taught me that when the opportunity arises, you dress up & stay up all night long sewing, if need be, to make sure you have the best damn costume in the room.

I didn’t dress up last year. I was going to. I was going to either be global warming or the Internet (both costumes way too complicated to explain now), but Halloween slipped up on me way too soon.

So, this year, I’m thinking of something glamorous & historic, but I haven’t quite decided on anything for sure. I was thinking maybe Marie Antoinette (but maybe too old fashion/elaborate for me)...I’m not sure yet.

The POINT of all this is that I was doing some web research when I stumbled on the site The Costumer’s Guide to Movie Costumes. It is an absolute gold mine! So many ideas & images for reference! I could look at this site for hours.

By the way, a shout out to my mother is due. This woman has made me the most amazing costumes over the years. My favorites include a mermaid costume which involved her creating individual multi-colored scales for my “tail” and a princess costume that she created using her own wedding dress. Love you, ma!

It's Dreamy

Thinking of rearranging my bedroom, was looking at room photos on PointClickHome when I stumbled on this gem. I'm loving the lavender/violet/buttercream color combo. Dreamy, non?

Get it Shalane!

Shalane Flanagan (a UNC grad who lives in NC) totally killed it Saturday in Beijing. She won the bronze in the women's 10,000 meter race!

She's also the August cover girl for one of my favorite magazines, Endurance Magazine. Check out more on her on the magazine's site.
